Ayrton Senna Monaco 88 Crystal Helmet
This helmet is a celebration of Ayrton Senna’s sublime qualifying lap at the Monaco Grand Prix on 14th May 1988 when he qualified the legendary McLaren MP4/4 in a time of 1 minute 23.998 seconds, beating Alain Prost, his teammate and rival by a margin of 1.427 seconds. Senna is famous for his post-qualifying quote: “That day, I suddenly realised that I was no longer driving conscious, and I was in a different dimension. The circuit for me was a tunnel, which I was just going, going, going, and I realised I was well beyond my conscious understanding” Even though Ayrton did not win the actual race, his Monaco qualifying lap has gone down as probably the greatest qualifying lap in Formula 1 history.
